Framework for the Delivery of Special Education via Distance Learning
This framework has been created to outline the means by which California Creative Learning Academy will support the learning needs of all students, including students with neuro-diverse & learning differences who receive protections and educationally related services via their Section 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

California Creative Learning Academy & California Creative Learning Academy Middle School is committed to helping all students with disabilities to access their education during distance learning. will continue to serve every child in a way that addresses their individual needs in accordance with the protections outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Action (IDEA) to the extent possible within a distance learning platform. We are dedicated to identifying different strategies and interventions to help provide educational access.

We have sought the expertise from program specialists at LAUSD, L.A. County Office of Education, non-public agencies, and agencies that have experience with teletherapy. Through these partnerships, we have provided professional development opportunities for our staff to learn about tools and strategies that they can employ to better meet the needs of their students via distance learning. Our teams meet regularly to better understand and support student needs in a distance learning model.
III. The Delivery of Services and the Convening of IEP meetings services
For the remainder of the year, during the closure of our campuses, to the extent possible, special education services will be delivered via virtual platforms. The frequency and duration of certain services may be revised for distance learning. Certain services, which require direct contact or in-person interactions, such as the Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII) will be place on hold temporarily until the school reopens or until an appropriate alternative is found.
IEP Meetings and Assessments: We will hold IEP meetings virtually or via telephone. In the event that parents are not able to participate due to a lack of technology, the school may be able to provide an appropriate device for the purpose of accessing the online meeting. We are unable to conduct some formal assessments since they cannot be administered in a valid and reliable manner via distance. We await guidance from the State and Federal government on this issue.
IV. Providing a protocol for fielding concerns from parents
In the event that parents have concerns about their child’s IEP contact the school to request an IEP meeting to discuss their concerns. Parents of a child with neuro-diverse & learning differences have protection under the procedural safeguards of 34 Code of Federal Regulations Section 300.503. This includes the right to mediation and due process, as required by the IDEA. However, prior to taking this step, we request that parents first try to meet with the school, through an IEP meeting or via the Informal Dispute Resolution (IDR) process. This will provide the IEP team with the best opportunity to directly engage in good faith in order to resolve disputes. Through the principles in this framework, we are confident that we will do our best to serve all of our students as well as preserving the relationships between parents and staff that have been at the heart of the school.
